Repair Tech Expertise
Randy has nearly 30 years of technical experience in instrument repair with a specialty in building, customizing and repairing brass instruments. He has also managed, designed and built repair shops over the length of his career. He does everything from routine brass and woodwind repairs to specialty brass work, including lead pipe modifications for trumpets, piston and rotor venting for tubas, bell cutting for French horns, and conversions to Thayer, Greenhoe and Haggman axial flow rotor systems for trombones.
Randy collaborated on a special project to fabricate trombone slides from carbon fiber with Spurling PL, out of Zurich, Switzerland. These slides are ultra-light, exhibit exceptional structural integrity and are immune to bends and dents. Prototypes are being tested in various studios in Los Angeles, and with players in the Oregon Symphony, the Zurich Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.
Randy Mueller offers a level of expertise and experience in instrument repair and fabrication second to none. From London, Zurich, to Paris, it has been my pleasure to hear trombone players testing Randy’s finely crafted components and to hear them speaking frankly about his consistent and remarkable results. Attention to fine detail has become a hallmark of his work.

Randy Mueller is the loudest friggin’ trumpeter I’ve ever had the pleasure of sitting next to. And he’s not just loud—he’s good too. I’ve never heard anybody get stronger through a double of “Singin’ in the Rain” like him. When the rest of us are cooked, he’s just getting warmed up. It’s weird.
